Small Multiples

Small multiples is a good solution when dealing with some kind of information.

in tufte's book, a good example is the chart about where did Chinese poets born in different dynasties.

the most important information stands out and the multiples show the constant change

happening. Seeing the multiples side by side lets the viewer see change and also it makes the information more clear and easy to follow. less important information was designed in a light grey color and it helps the viewer know the surroundings but it doesn't take from the main idea or concept.

I found this chart online, which shows several dimensions of air pollution in China. by looking at the small multiples one can see the change and progress of pollution.
